7 Ways to Make Your Website Look Great

These days, It’s almost impossible to succeed as an entrepreneur without having an online presence. And the only way to maintain an online presence is to have a website. Unfortunately, some people never pay attention to the way their website looks – and this hurts their progress. Let’s take a look a 7 ways to ensure that your website looks great.

#1:  Create a Professional Logo to Make Your Website Look Great
Make sure your website presents itself professionally both online and off with a custom, highly professional logo.  Your logo should match your website and project the theme of your business. Cutting corners and getting a cheap logo designed by your nephew is not a good business decision.  Your logo could possibly be the most important part of your business, as it’ contains your brand and it’s what your customers and or clients remember about you the most.

#2: Make Sure Your Website Design is Compatible with Your Industry
Does the website itself match whatever industry you’re in? For instance, if you’re a company that sells beach supplies (like flip-flops, umbrellas, etc.), it would probably be a good idea to choose a somewhat “relaxed” website layout, since this is what people typically experience while on vacation. It wouldn’t make sense to use an overly formal website design in this particular situation since it doesn’t really match the theme of what you’re offering.

#3: Reader-Friendly Website Content
People often don’t have time to read every single word on your website. Most of the time, they’ll scan for words that are relevant to what they’re looking for. This is why it’s very important to use bolded, italicized, and underlined font when necessary – it will help break up the content. For example, when writing about the benefits of your company, use bullet points to help emphasize each individual point. Not only will it look cleaner and nicer but it will also be more likely to stand out against other elements on your website.

#4: Don’t Abuse Unnecessary Website Pop-Ups
In some cases, using pop-ups can be a great way to show something to a visitor that they otherwise would have missed. But when used unnecessarily, or in excess, it can actually be quite annoying. If you are going to use pop-ups, there are a few things to consider.
First, make sure that you give the visitor a clear “exit” button for them to leave the pop-up. If a visitor can’t figure out how to exit your pop-up then they may become so frustrated that they never return! Second, make sure that your pop-ups are relevant to your website and that they aren’t “Spamming” your visitors with irrelevant offers.

#5: Use Suitable Website Color Schemes
Inappropriate background colours can make your text very difficult to read. As a general rule of thumb, it’s almost always a good idea to use black text on a white background (there are exceptions of course). It’s also important that you use quality colour contrast between different elements on your website. Dark colours on light ones (or vice versa) will help the visitor see each individual element on the page, thus, preventing them from becoming lost or confused.

#6: Make Your Website Easy to Navigate
One of the most annoying things that a visitor can go through is not being able to comfortably navigate your website. If they’re constantly getting lost, or can’t find their desired page, then you’re doing something wrong. In fact, statistics have shown you lose up to 50% of visitors every time that you make them click on a link. You can imagine how many you’ll lose if your desired page is located five pages away from the homepage.

#7: Make Sure Your Website Loads Fast

One of the biggest problems faced by website owners is that their websites often take 20+ seconds to load. By that time the visitor has already given up and left! We live in a fast-paced society and most people simply won’t wait that long. What should be your goal? At the very minimum, try to make your site load within 10 seconds. But even that can be a high number for some visitors. If you can reduce the speed even more that’s an added bonus. You can speed up your site fairly easily by eliminating bulky graphics and other sluggish HTML elements.
